How this coloring book came to be:

This coloring book is the second iteration of a 3-day artist-in-residence program with the Herring Pond Wampanoag tribe, Community Art Collaborative, and the Plymouth Visual and Performing Arts Department.

We took teachers, artists, and students on a walk through our lands, teaching them about the natural elements and how we enjoy our spring. We shared why vegetation is important to us, and how we take care of the land. Students then worked in an art studio space, creating art using berries to make watercolor and illustrations, while listening to the folk stories that we shared.

This book is a tribute to the importance of written documentation, awareness and community building to demonstrate how we honor and celebrate our indigenous tribes.
